It was Crofton Carnival on 20th June & we decided to go and see what it was all about. Gemma was going on a boozy lunch with some friends so Tom & Olive came with us to Crofton, or rather, they met us there. We got off the bus too early and had to walk about 3/4 of a mile to the carnival and I’m not entirely sure it was worth it. There were a few stalls selling this and that and about five lame tombolas with nothing worth winning on display. The most exciting thing was the bouncy castle/slide thingy that Scarlett had a go on. We weren’t sure she’d be willing and able to get up the spongy ladder but she did it. It took a while and required some encouragement, as did the launch from the top but she managed two goes in five minutes.
There she is in the top right, wearing green. What a diddy she looks.
Here she is trying to gather the courage to come down the slide.
Here she’s assumed the favoured position of lying down on her stomach to come down feet first. You should have seen how much she bounced when she got to the bottom. She also got a round of applause from the crowd. Unfortunately, she didn’t want to leave the attraction and had a right paddy when her wishes were ignored. Tom and Olive arrived just as she’d calmed down so they happily missed her display. We then had a bit of a wander but only bought a jar of local honey and a jar of hot chilli chutney. We then procured some fairy cakes & coffees and sat in the very small park to consume them whilst Scarlett played, before returning home. Gemma returned from her boozy lunch only mildly boozed up and we had a nice evening of drinking Polish beer and enjoying Russell Brand on telly.
Tom, Gemma & Olive stopped over at ours as Sunday promised us a choice of two car boot fairs. We ended up missing the stop for the first one so we stayed on the bus and went back to Crofton for the second one only to arrive as the last two cars were packing up: Fail. We still managed to buy an old, red hole-punch and a pair of brass cobra candlesticks. On the way back, we stopped off at the scene of the first car boot to try & catch the last few cars but they’d all packed up & gone home. We went and sat behind the sports centre on a picnic table so that Olive could be fed and there luckily happened to be a slide there to keep Scarlett entertained.
We caught the bus part way back and walked the rest of the way via a nice old cemetery where we did some grave spotting. We had Chinese for dinner in Wakey before heading back to ours for a relaxing afternoon of doing nothing.
